How it Started
Ghost Goodies started rather quickly… Our names are Alec and Aliyah. When it all started it was just us with our pup Ghost. We lived in a house with 3 other dogs (Misty, Diesel, and Pumpkin) family pets. We were both in College and what started a class project turned into something bigger.
Ghost was always a flatulent pup, like clear the room bad. To fix this we did a complete 180 on his diet and things got better. We realized that we didn’t really know what we were feeding him. We need to cut out lots of things, learning what he was sensitive to and also found most options aren’t good for any pup. It all started very fast, we started making treats and got school project was to create a business plan. Since we were already working on one it just made sense to keep going.
We found that we would have to register each recipe with the Idaho State Department of Agriculture following their regulations: some being send treats in for testing and label them using AFFCO Regulations. We registered our business and started gathering supplies to start professionally baking. Our very first batches turned out bad. They were dry and didn’t look very appetizing. We made so many batches adjusting our recipes and making sure it was something that our pups enjoyed as well. We learned so much, like don’t give a chihuahua the same sized treats as your 40 lbs dogs… that got messy. We made our first samples bags and asked people in our community to try them.
It took us 3 months to officially start, Nov. 18th was our first Sales day at the Thunder Ridge Harvest Market. We prepped all week and it was very stressful, we had no idea how much work it would be to do events. In the end this was the best event for us to attend and to this day people remember us as the sweaty kids on the 3rd floor at Thunder Ridge.
